Proposing in Lebanon from Abroad: The Diaspora Playbook

A couple embracing after a marriage proposal

Proposing in Lebanon when you live abroad is not the obstacle it sounds like. Done in the right order, the stone is chosen and verified before you board, the ring is waiting when you land, and the only surprise left is the one you intended.

Choose and verify the stone before you fly

The part most people abroad worry about — picking a diamond they cannot hold — is the part we have long handled for the trade. A loose certified stone is not a photograph; it is a documented object. We arrange a live video call with the diamond in hand, turning it under the loupe and through several lights while you watch, so you see exactly how it behaves before you commit. You read the certificate yourself, and you do not take our word for the report — you check the report number directly on the laboratory’s own website while we are still on the call. The same paper trail the wholesale market relies on is the one you confirm with your own eyes. This is the reasoning behind buying your diamond in Lebanon rather than from a vitrine in a city where you do not speak the language of the trade.

Reserve it — held for you, no obligation

Once a stone is right, we hold it in your name. There is no deposit theatre and no pressure to decide on the call: a reserved diamond is simply taken off the table while you think, talk to family, or wait for the right moment to ask. If you change your mind, it goes back to inventory and that is the end of it. The trade learned long ago that a diamond chosen under pressure is a diamond regretted, and we have no interest in selling you either.

The setting, made to your timeline

With the stone settled, the ring is built around your plans rather than ours. Tell us when you land and the setting is finished to meet that date. The same applies to the design itself — a solitaire, a halo, a hidden halo each carry the centre stone differently, and it is worth reading our guide to setting styles before you decide, since the mount changes how the diamond reads on the hand as much as the weight does.

Ready when you land, or delivered insured

Two paths suit the diaspora. The first: the finished ring waits for you in Beirut, so you collect it the day you arrive and propose without a parcel in your luggage. The second, if you are asking from abroad or arriving with no margin: the ring is delivered, fully insured, in twenty-four to forty-eight hours to where you need it. Either way nothing fragile rides in a coat pocket through three airports.

Her ring size, discreetly

The question everyone abroad gets stuck on is size, because you cannot exactly slip a gauge onto her finger over a video call. There are quiet ways around it — borrowing a ring she already wears and measuring its inner diameter, asking a sister or a close friend who can be trusted to keep a secret, or simply choosing a setting that resizes easily later. Our ring size guide walks through measuring a borrowed band correctly, and in practice a ring sized one step out is a five-minute adjustment, not a disaster. Better to propose with a ring that needs a small tuck than to spoil the surprise by asking.

Timing around the seasons

Two windows fill the diaspora calendar. The summer, when the emigrants come home and weddings and tolbeh follow one another through July and August; and Christmas, when the family gathers and proposals cluster around the holidays. Both are lovely moments to ask and both are our busiest benches. If you plan to land in either season, begin the conversation early — a few weeks of lead time means the stone is reserved and the setting unhurried, rather than squeezed into a queue. Tell us your dates and we will work backward from the day you intend to ask.

From the first video call to the ring in your hand, the distance is a detail we manage so you do not have to.
